“Lifetime resident throws his hat into the ring in Bay Ward”

Ottawa, Ontario – September 12, 2014 — Lifetime Bay Ward resident Trevor Robinson tossed his hat into the election ring today for a chance to become that ward’s next city councillor.

Trevor often jokes that the phrase born, raised and still living here almost defines him. “I was born in Ottawa and I’ve lived in Bay Ward all of my life, without the draw to move away. Ottawa, and specifically Bay Ward, is a great place to live where else would I want to be?”

Trevor’s nomination puts him in a race with two easily recognizable names in Bay Ward, Mark Taylor (the incumbent) and Alex Cullen (the previous councillor). When asked why he chose this ward instead of one where the election might be less challenging he responded simply with “I live here, I’d be truly honoured to represent my own neighbours.” When asked what type of campaign he plans to run, given his competition, he replied “an honest one. I’m not planning on slinging mud or fighting dirty. I want to run an honest and clean campaign, the same type of campaign I would expect to see as a voter – absolutely no attack ads.”

When asked about voter turnout, Trevor mentioned that it is something that is important to him. According to statistics on the city’s website, voter turnout in Bay Ward during the 2010 election was approximately 51% “while 51% is a better turnout than most elections, it is always nice to see more. With the city’s proposed three additional advanced voting days I think it gives residents lots of options.”

Trevor has previously served the role of Student Trustee with the OCDSB (representing approximately 80,000 students), Eastern Ontario Representative on the EPB Council with OSTA-AECO (representing approximately 150,000 students over an area of approximately 30,000 square kilometres), just to name a few.

When asked why he has decided to run, Trevor responded with “I’ve always enjoyed being involved in my community in some form since an early age when my father brought me to fundraising events he was doing for Christie Lake Boys & Girls Camp. I’ve often looked at how I can best give back to my community,

to help better it for the future. What better way than to make it my full time job. Being councillor would not only allow me to be involved in the here and now, but to be a part of helping to shape the future.”

When asked what his first election promise would be, Robinson was quick to say “I won’t make a promise that isn’t feasible, I can’t promise to lower taxes by 10% tomorrow. My promise to myself, and to the residents of Bay Ward is that if elected, I will do my best to represent Bay Ward at City Hall in an honest fashion, to provide a sobering second thought – which is what I, as a voter, would expect to see from my elected representative.”
